A bizarre bazaar in Brooklyn

Inspired by the night markets of Southeast Asia, the free event, which began two years ago as a pop-up affair, now operates weekly. A rotating line-up of mostly New York-based vendors sell the gamut from stylish sneakers and hula hoops to jewellery and locally produced spices, jams and nut butters. There’s also an array of foodie-pleasing bites (lobster rolls, tacos, dumplings, pie) for immediate consumption.

Lest it be confused with a flea market, club-like light installations, a beer garden, live bands and DJs set a different scene. The 23,000sqft former bakery space also houses a graffiti-covered ping pong room and a nine-hole miniature golf course complete with a disco ball.

The Brooklyn Night Bazaar, located at 165 Banker Street, is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 pm to midnight. IDs are required, although members of the under-21 crowd are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Super Passes, which provide expedited entry for two people, two bar beverages and a game of mini golf or ping pong for two, are available for $25 online.
